List of Brain Functions

Our brain is a complex collection of electro-chemical structures that perform the following functions:

  1. Some parts of your brain perceive the world around you, giving the ability to see, hear, smell, taste, and feel.
  2. Some move your many body parts.
  3. Some regulate your hormones.
  4. Some process the language that enters your ears; others process the language that exits your mouth.
  5. Some count numbers, some remember stories.
  6. Some perceive shapes, others see colors.
  7. Some perceive edges, other perceive orientations and movements.
  8. Some parts are logical; some are intuitive.
  9. Some rehearse a phone number for just a few seconds; others remember your ABCs for a lifetime.
  10. Some remember faces; others remember melodies.
  11. Some help different parts share information with each other.
  12. Some work together to integrate parts into wholes.
  13. Some trigger your fight, flight, or freeze responses.
  14. Some can imagine things… allowing us to “see” with our eyes closed or to “hear” with no sound entering our ears.
  15. Can you think of some others?
