Reading, playing, and singing the Solfege Syllables out loud is an extremely effective way to tune up your ears and to internalize the unique sound-feeling of each note in the scale with respect to the key center Do. Make sure to do this slowly enough for the unique sound-feeling of each Solfege Syllable to make a meaningful impression on your mindโs ear.
Note: Don’t try to hear the interval between successive notes. It’s okay if you do, but the goal is to be receptive to the unique sound-feeling of each note with respect to the key center Do.
Let’s do some serious Solfege ear training by singing the Bb Major Scale in few commonly used musical patterns…
Bb Major Scale: Linear, Ascending…

Bb Major Scale: Linear, Descending…

Bb Major Scale: Do-X-Do, Ascending…

Bb Major Scale: Do-X-Do, Descending…
This is not a race! Do this slowly enough to tune up each note and to allow the unique sound-feeling of each Solfege syllable to make a meaningful impression on your mind’s ear…

Bb Major Scale: Broken Thirds, Ascending…

Bb Major Scale: Broken Thirds, Descending…

Bb Major Scale: Triplets, Ascending…

Bb Major Scale: Triplets, Descending…

Bb Major Scale: Diatonic Triads, Ascending…

Bb Major Scale: Diatonic Triads, Descending…

Note: While itโs possible to continue by singing a bunch of other musical patterns, the 80-20 Principle teaches us that a more efficient approach is to get your ear training material directly from the music that YOU want to play!
