C Middle Eastern Scale: Theory & Ear Training

Here’s a delicious-sounding scale from the middle east. I really don’t know what to call it, so let’s call it the Middle Eastern Scale. Compare it to the C Major Scale and notice the dramatic effect created by changing two notes: Db (Ra) instead of D (Re) and Ab (Le) instead of A (La). Notice how these unique tensions allow you to create a whole new kind of music, a very exotic sound that is instantly recognizable!  By the way, this is yet another example proving that scales are not made of “half-steps” and “whole-steps”.
