Rockabilly is descended directly from the lineage of Blues and Boogie Woogie

It sounds like The Blues, but it feels like rock and roll.

Why? Because rock and roll is played as straight eighth notes, rather than the shuffle rhythm that characterizes Blues and Boogie Woogie.

Study-Practice Tips

  • Form: How many bars? Twelve, just like 12 bar blues!
  • Regarding the Left Hand: Feel free to change the bassline to suit your own taste or consider eliminating your left hand altogether if playing with a bass player!
  • Technique Tip: Don’t forget to let gravity do all the work on those right hand chords!
