Emotional Preparation: Do You Have What it Takes?

More often than not, “having what it takes”, has a lot more to do with character than with raw talent

Success is more about practicing the following in all aspects of life…

Curiosity. You know that ignorance is not bliss.

Honesty. You acknowledge what you do well and what you need to work on. Such honesty breeds a healthy balance of confidence and humility.

Discipline. Once you identify your weaknesses, you work methodically and relentlessly in order to eliminate them one by one. The magic ingredient that separates the doers from the wannabes is uncommon diligence.

Patience. Even for the most talented among us, all great accomplishments are the culmination of countless numbers of baby steps. You are willing to take each and every one of them.

Perseverance. When things get hard, you must try and try again. This is the defining ingredient that separates successful people from all the rest.

Love. You care enough about what you are doing to be willing to suffer for it. Perhaps this is why serious students (and their inevitable, exceptional accomplishments) are so rare.

Significantly, none of the above is a talent. Each one is a choice, available to anyone at this very moment.
