Blues and Boogie Woogie improvisation is not just about soloing. It’s also about having a diverse set of comping styles in your bag.
This lesson is an opportunity to get familiar with some chord voicings for the “big three” chords (I-IV-V) and to work on your left-right coordination.
FYI: The left hand here is sometimes called the “chop”.

Study-Practice Notes…
- Don’t forget to shuffle the dotted quarters and eighth notes.
- Never throw your hands at the keys. Use a prepared attack and let gravity drop the weight of your arms/hands/fingers into each chord with just enough support to keep your hands and fingers from collapsing.
- No flams between the left and right hands!
